Night Diving
Let us take you on a tour of darkness!
You'll be surprised just how much you can see.
Vibrant colours. Different marine life. And silence all around.
Night diving is an exciting experience...
Whether you're a first-time night diver or not, the excitement and anticipation of what's out there remains the same, dive after dive.
It's 7:00pm. The sun's gone down. Time for equipment setup, a night-diving briefing, a beach entry and a short surface swim... switch on the torch, and down we go.
We land gently on the sandy bottom. Time to check we have everybody with us. It's dark. Something's here. I can feel it watching me. Torches beam in all directions. We're looking for reasons not to be here, in the dark. But everything's fine, why are we so nervous. It's just the dark.
The divemaster gives us the infamous OK sign, and he starts moving away. Where's he going? How does he know which way to go? How long before we see something? Let's keep him in sight... follow that man!
Jingle-jingle, from the divemaster. Sh*t, something's here! What's he seen? Is it close to me? Sure. It's close. We look to the divemaster and he's poiting out a blue-spotted ray gliding over the sand just to our right. He's pointing with his torch, so we know where to look. That wasn't too bad. Where next?
Moving slowly past the reef, our torches show the colours better than daylight. Plenty of time to look. Our divemaster's in no rush. He's already found something else to show us. Just a small hermit crab, and a hairy crab, and a lionfish... and there's a boulder wall too, very colourful, full of lionfish... and there's a giant puffer hovering above it all.
It's none-stop visual intake throughout the dive. We're seeing things moving that are completely dormant in the day, if you ever see them at all.
Hmmm... We're over white sand. What happened to the reef? Is the divemaster lost or what? We look up, and see shore lights. We've just realised he's about to take us up... and we're just metres away from the beach entry.
How did he do that, and all in the dark? I've got so many questions that I need to ask him...
And that's how the story goes... it's
a great experince... again and again.
See for yourself, have a look at some of the photos we've taken :-
